ADHD Workplace Training

ADHD Workplace Training for UK managers and HR teams.

ADHD workplace training that helps managers support ADHD employees competently — grounded in lived experience, reasonable-adjustment practice and 25 years of leading teams inside large organisations.

Wayne Kelly designs and delivers ADHD workplace training for line managers, HR teams and functional leaders supporting ADHD employees. This is the ADHD-specific training layer; the ADHD speaker page is for keynote and event bookings, and broader manager capability sits under workplace neurodiversity training.

Why organisations book ADHD-specific training

ADHD is the single most common trigger for adjustment conversations in most UK workplaces, and the one managers handle worst. Diagnosis rates in adults have risen sharply, waiting lists are long, and managers are frequently supporting someone who is self-identified, waiting for assessment, or newly medicated — none of which fits neatly into an HR process built around a settled diagnosis.

General neurodiversity training does not go deep enough on those situations. ADHD-specific training does.

Who it is for

Line managers with ADHD employees in their team, HR business partners advising them, occupational health and wellbeing leads, and functional leaders in high-pressure environments where ADHD traits are both common and commonly misread as attitude problems.

What the training covers

What ADHD is and is not in adults at work — attention regulation rather than attention deficit, and why the inconsistency confuses managers most.

The strengths teams routinely underuse: pattern recognition, crisis performance, rapid problem-solving, direct communication.

How ADHD shows up in 1:1s, performance conversations, planning cycles and change programmes.

Reasonable adjustments for ADHD in practice — written follow-ups, deadline structuring, meeting formats, environment, flexible hours — and how to agree and review them properly.

Distinguishing a performance issue from an unmet support need, and how to run a performance conversation that does neither party a disservice.

Medication, diagnosis and waiting lists: what managers need to know, and firmly where the manager's role stops.

Delivery formats

Manager cohort of half a day or a full day, HR partner enablement session, ADHD ERG launch, executive briefing on ADHD in senior leadership, and virtual series for distributed teams.

UK legal context, handled carefully

ADHD can meet the Equality Act 2010 definition of disability where it has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on someone's ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. Whether it does depends on the individual's circumstances, so training deliberately avoids blanket statements in either direction.

What managers are taught instead is the practical position: engage with the request, respond reasonably, document what was agreed, and take advice from HR rather than adjudicating the legal question themselves. This is general information, not legal advice, and organisations should take their own advice on specific cases.

What makes this different

Wayne trains from lived experience of ADHD and dyslexia combined with 25 years of senior transformation leadership. He has been the employee asking for the adjustment and the leader deciding whether the team could absorb it.

That dual perspective changes how the training lands with commercial and operational managers, who tend to switch off when ADHD is presented purely as something to accommodate rather than something to manage well.

ADHD Workplace Training — FAQ

Do you train HR and managers separately or together?

+

Both. A common shape is a joint HR and manager module followed by role-specific breakouts, so that both sides leave with the same understanding of where responsibility sits.

Is this suitable for organisations with existing ADHD ERGs?

+

Yes. Wayne often partners with ADHD networks to co-design and co-deliver the manager-facing content, which tends to strengthen both credibility and attendance.

What if an employee is self-identified rather than diagnosed?

+

This is covered directly, because it is now the most common scenario. The practical guidance is to respond to the described barriers rather than waiting for paperwork — most useful adjustments carry little or no cost and do not require a diagnosis.

Does the training give legal advice?

+

No. It covers the Equality Act framework in general terms so managers understand the landscape, and is explicit that specific cases go to HR and, where needed, to qualified legal advice.
